Leave Nairobi at 6:30 in the morning for 4hours drive to Olpejeta Conservancy a sanctually for Rhino and Chimpanzee. Here, these magnificent beasts are given sanctuary from those who would take their lives to sell their treature parts like horns. Here too, the Jane Goodall Institute operates a remarkable Chimpanzee Sanctuary where we meet the primates face to- face. The famous Sweetwater Tented camp is also situated in this conservancy. This Conservancy offers a wide variety of wild animals like elephant, giraffe and myriad plains game. This is Africa as Teddy Roosevelt saw it years ago when he led one of the first safaris to tour Africa in comfort and splendor.
After a game drive, leave Olpejeta to Nanyuki town a nearby town for lunch. This town is located at the Equator. Spend the evening trekking around Equator where some men in the Equator point will demostrate to you how the collialism shows that you are exactly at the Equator point.There are other attraction in this town like P.C.E.A NANYUKI SPINNERS & WEAVERS (A WOMEN SELF HELP PROJECT). This is a traditional industry for making wall mart, scurf’s, tablemats e.t.c using wool products . This is the best time for acclimatization. Dinner and overnight at Nanyuki Simbas Castel Hotel.
At 10:15am after breakfast at simbas lodge, leave Nanyuki together with mountain crews to Sirimon gate where you will start your hiking to Mt Kenya after lunch. Trek from Sirimon gate to Old Moses camp a distance of 9km that take a bout 3-4 hours trekking, pass through forest of indigenous trees like Podo trees, Douglass fire, Cinder, pine e.t.c and then to Bamboo and finally to Heath part. Dinner and over night at Old Moses Camp.
Wake up at 6:00am in the morning and pack your belongings and then have after breakfast at 6:30am. Leave Old Moses camp with a picnic lunch exactly at 7:00 am to shiptons camp a distance of 14 km a journey that takes 6-7 hours. Shiptons camp is located at the base of the highest peaks in Mt Kenya. Dinner and overnight at Shiptons Hut.
After break fast at 8:30 in the morning, leave Shiptons for short distance acclimatization to Shiptons col 4650m and the return to Shiptons camp for Lunch. This is a very important day for preparations of the next day summit attempt. Dinner and over night at Shiptons Hut.
Wake up very early in the morning exactly at 2:00 am to prepare your self and the take pre breakfast at 2:30 am. Leave Shiptons at 3:00 am to attempt the summit a journey that takes 3 ½ hours to reach the summit. Point Lenana is the 3rd highest peak in Mt Kenya and the only one that can be reached by trekking. On a clear sky day you can see Mt Kilimanjaro on southern side and Indian Ocean shining as the sun is rising. After enjoying the summit, descend down to back to descend down to Mackinder’s camp for full breakfast. Here the guide will give you 1 hour to relax before you proceed to Met station campsite for lunch, Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast at 7:30, you will walk down to Naromoru gate where you will meet a transfer vehicle to Naromoru town or if you are too much exhausted, a guide can organize for you a 4×4 wheel drive vehicle but with an extra cost of 9000 ksh/109 us$ that will drive you down from Met station camp to Naromoru town where you will have a short break to say Kwaheri(good bye) to your potters and cook as you connect with Another vehicle back to Nairobi where your tour ends.
